A zoning variance application for 562 Brunswick Street is on the agenda for Fredericton’s next Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting on Wednesday, April 19. The property is the former location of an anti-choice centre, which was located next door to Clinic 554. Clinic 554 is a family medical practice that provides abortion services as well as other health care.

1. Write an email before Thursday, April 13

You can voice your concerns with the planned use of the property at 562 Brunswick Street to the planning department by emailing planning@fredericton.ca by 4:30pm this Thursday, April 13. Meeting this deadline will ensure your concerns are included in the information packages distributed to the PAC members. Also, please consider requesting to speak before the committee at the PAC meeting in your submission.

Points to make in your submission:

* The Planning Advisory Committee must consider the future use of the 562 Brunswick Street property. The proposed building would house an organization that has harassed those seeking health care at Clinic 554 and provided inaccurate information about the health impacts of abortion to those seeking counselling at their centre.

*The Planning Advisory Committee and Fredericton City Council must intervene in planning matters that go against the public interest. When organized crime was allegedly threatening the city, Fredericton City Council intervened. The city must intervene in the reconstruction of an anti-choice centre next to Clinic 554, a family medical practice that provides abortion services. Health care should be delivered in a safe and harassment-free environment.

2. Attend the PAC meeting on April 19 at 7pm at City Council Chambers as a show of support for making the provision of health care, including abortion services, safe in downtown Fredericton.
